June 27, 1994 - Whole No. 40 - Vol. 5, No. 4
Michael Cooley, Editor ── Galen Sullivan, Associate Editor
Post Office Box 593, Santa Cruz, CA 95061-0593
Internet e-mail: nqf@netcom.com
THE NATIONAL QUERIES FORUM (ISSN 1058-7020) is published 6 times a
year: January, March, May, July, September, November. The current
magazine subscription rate is $17.50 a year. The yearly subscription
rate for NQF ON DISKETTE is $30. (California residents add 7.25%
state sales tax.) Non-profit organizations may deduct 10% from the
subscription price. Unless otherwise stated, new subscriptions begin
with the next issue published. NQF is mailed via the 3rd-class "bulk
mail" postage rate. Please allow up to 6 weeks for delivery. Bulk
mail is not forwarded or returned. Notify us of any address change at
least 6 weeks prior to moving. First-class postage for new copies of
any issues missed because of lack of notification must be paid for by
the subscriber.
Back Issues.
A price list of all in-print back issues, as well as for NQF ON
DISKETTE, is available by sending a written request to the above
address. A SASE will facilitate a response.
Bulk Copies.
We will make available to any non-profit genealogical or historical
society multiple copies of NQF to be set out free of charge for
patrons of your fair, convention or seminar. When making such a
request, please state the exact dates of the event, the anticipated
number in attendance and a street address for UPS delivery --
articles shipped via UPS will not be delivered to a P.O. Box. To
assure that we will have a sufficient number of copies of the current
issue on hand, please send your request at least three months in
advance.
Publishing Philosophy.
The National Queries Forum was founded to help promote genealogical
correspondence throughout the genealogical community. To accomplish
that end, it is our policy to make NQF as accessible as possible and
to maintain a wide dis tribution. These goals are met in part by
keeping our rates low. To maintain low rates we keep our costs down
by using the same printing methods and materials that the large
newspapers use. Other methods can cost up to 1500% more. Postage
costs are kept to a minimum by using a format that meets postal
requirements for the 3rd class letter rate.
It is also important to us to help generate response to your queries
by building a circulation well-beyond that of paid subscriptions. We
send out thousands of copies in bulk, free of charge, to prominent
genealogical libraries & archives and to genealogical fairs &
conventions (see "Bulk Copies," above). The diskette version of NQF
is also made available through several electronic online services.
There is no charge to download NQF, other than the usual access fees.
Definitions.
A genealogical query asks a question or requests information about a
given subject. Family Group Sheets or histories are not queries and
are not acceptable for publication in NQF. A word is a series of
printable characters with a space or punctuation on each side.
Submission Policy and Rates.
Founding Subscribers maintain their privileges. (Founding Subscribers
have an account number less than 1000.) All queries with more than 50
words will be published at 25 cents for each additional word. Dates
count as one word. There is no charge for your name, address,
telephone or FAX number and e-mail address. Otherwise, all words,
abbreviated or not, count as a word. Postage stamps are not
acceptable as payment.

multiple queries submitted at the same time might appear in
successive issues. Otherwise, no query will be placed ah ead of
others waiting for publication. We reserve the right to abbreviate
queries according to the editorial needs of the particular issue.
NQF assumes no liability for errors made by us, by the submitter, or
by other parties involved in the printing and publication of The
National Queries Forum.
Submission Guidelines.
Please observe the following when submitting your queries: Write them
in single-paragraph style on paper separate from any other
correspondence. Do not abbreviate - we will take care of it. Print
or use a typewriter and capita lize, underline, or highlight all last
names and maiden names (only). Use slashes (/), commas or spaces to
separate alternate spellings, etc. --use hyphens only in hyphenated
names. Do not use numeric dating (i.e., 1-2-1878). Your name and full
USPS address must appear with each page submitted. To ensure proper
processing, please include your account number, found on your mailing
label, with your submissions. If you wish to resubmit a query, please
wait until the first run of the same query has appeared. We reserve
the right to not publish submissions of inappropriate content or that
are not in keeping with our guidelines.
